Battery balancing for suppliers and aggregators

Choose a start and an end date. The calculation uses the real day-ahead prices in that range and answers, day by day, what would have been earned after prices were known.

Sample rhythm. Real buy and sell hours appear after you run a range.

Plant

Tank stays 10.0 MWh. At this rate hourly power is 5.0 MW. It can fill in 2 hours, or more slowly.

Cycle-life note: 6,000 full cycles. This month uses the price archive.

Choose a start and an end. A month or a full year both work. Prices are the real day-ahead curve of that range.

Prices are the selected month's day-ahead prices. The result is the ceiling if those prices had been known in advance. Network charges, imbalance and ancillary services are excluded.

How it is calculated

C-rate is the maximum speed: 1C fills in one hour, 0.5C in two, 0.25C in four. The number you enter is stored energy. Hourly power is energy times C-rate. 1C can place that same tank on the single best hour, so profit does not fall below 0.5C. The tank does not have to empty in one hour. It can empty in 1/C hours, or spread across more hours when that pays. Hourly power cannot exceed the MW you enter. Energy delivered to the grid is cell energy times efficiency. The daily cycle cap limits how many times the tank may fill that day. Nothing is emptied for free: energy stays for the next day, or leaves at today's highest price, even below the purchase, whichever earns more.

Frequently asked questions

Questions

This tool is not an offer and not a market forecast.

Is this a price forecast?

No. A sample day shape is scaled to the average price you enter. The question is what this power would have earned if prices were already known.

Why is the result sometimes zero?

If efficiency loss and degradation consume the spread, no net profit remains. The battery stands by that day.

Are ancillary services included?

No. Primary and secondary frequency reserve need the transmission level and at least 30 MW, as a separate lock. The same energy is not offered both as reserve and as arbitrage.

What does cycle life limit?

The full-cycle count you enter says how many years the battery lasts if this sample day runs every day. If payback is longer than that, the investment does not return before the cells are used up.
